Tax Deduction and Collection Account Number, or TAN, is a 10-digit alphanumeric number, such as DELM12345L, that must be obtained by anyone in charge of withholding or collecting tax at the source. All TDS/TCS returns, including any e-TDS/TCS returns, TDS/TCS payment challans, TDS/TCS certificates, Annual Information Returns, and such documents as may be required by law must contain the TAN. Both offline and online applications are accepted for TANs.

Characteristics of TAN

1. Mandatory to quote

The TAN must be cited on TDS returns and challans. Additionally, it must be cited in all communications with the IT Department.

2. Validity

A TAN is good for life once it has been issued. TDS Filings, however, must be submitted on the last day of July, October, January, and May each quarter. A fine will be applied if TDS filings are not submitted by the deadline.

3.several TAN

For a single PAN, you can have numerous TAN. Different PANs might be requested for various company branches.
